Title: "Braces, Casts, Braces"

Synopsis: This is a short video art work which is thematically, aesthetically & technically a continuation, more or less, of the previous one "ISLEPTWITHTHELIGHTON". This video makes reference to two medically corrective measures I received at different times in my life; casts on my legs as a toddler and braces on my teeth as a teenager. These motifs are used to suggest a building/rebuilding or modification of identity. In the context of the previous video, these motifs further suggest a reforming of identity in the wake of personal tragedy. On a more visceral level, the images of teeth and braces will, in many people, provoke a sympathetic painful or uncomfortable response.

Production Notes: The screen is spatially divided into several sections; each section shows a mix between two live cameras. In one camera's view are the dental molds that were made before my orthodontic treatment began. The other camera's view shows graph paper onto which I draw with pink highlighter & black pen. The audio features the voices of myself and my mother, as well as field-recorded sources such as a refrigerator, a robotically-controlled sewing machine, harmonica, mandolin, etc.
