Fall 2001

Title: Fall 2001 Synopsis: This piece is 1 of 6 created for "Lost As Heat", an interactive DVD-Video disc. The work, through shades of blue, conveys the sense of shock; the cold, numb feeling following September 11th. There are three views here: the Manhattan skyline, flags at half-staff and missing persons posters. On the DVD version of this piece, these three views are actually three "angles" which are switchable by the viewer. Production Notes: You may notice that the missing persons posters appear strangely blank. That's because this piece, like the others on the DVD, was shot with a thermal imaging video camera, which displays infrared (heat) energy emitted from (or bouncing off of) things. No photos or text is visible on the surface of the paper in the infrared spectrum. As for the sound, it originated from a field recording of different sounds from a fire alarm control panel in a building I lived in. On the DVD, all 6 pieces are mixed in surround-sound. |
