"Oversight"

Title: "Oversight"
Category: Video
Year: 2010

Synopsis: The title has a double-meaning; it's strange that the two definitions of the word "oversight" are near opposites. Depending on context, the word can refer to a kind of quality control; one entity checking the work of another. Or it can refer to a lack of quality control; one entity making a mistake which goes unnoticed. The form and content of this work illustrates to some extent both meanings of the word "oversight", while also remaining very open so that viewers can form other related or different associations with it.

Production Notes: As the use of video in all sectors of society grows increasingly digital, I often find myself conversely enamored with video technologies which are considered now to be useless or obsolete. Such technologies were used in the production of this video. After thinking about the concept for this video off and on for several months, the video was shot in two days and edited in two days. The physical movements in the room and the narrative-like order of events were invented while shooting in a somewhat site-specific way (for example using the fire escape).
