Title: The Word of God
Category: Performance
Year: 1994
Synopsis:
As you might suspect, I'm not a fan of organized religion, especially ones who's name translate as "submission". Similar to the arc of my own early life experience with organized religion, the performer is pinned underneath the weight of religion, embodied in the piece by a large cathode ray tube video monitor. After a certain period of time, the weight is lifted off and I am free of its influence.

Production Notes: Around this time, the motif of placing the video monitor on top of myself was used in other pieces, such as the one following this one. The music was recorded on my trusty cassette 4-track machine (which I used for years before computer-based music/audio became the standard); I played a wooden flute, a hand drum, finger cymbals and electric guitar in an Arabesque style.
